Day 48 July 9th Cowboy Two

Ewing NE to Stuart NE  56 miles (2,130)

This was day two of four planned days on the 200 mile Cowboy Trail in Nebraska.

Today's blog post could be titled Cowboy Wimp. That's what I was today - I was a wimp when it came to riding the Cowboy Trail. I woke up tired and sore. So, I decided to ride the highway alongside the Cowboy Trail. I did ride portions of the Cowboy Trail, but by far the majority of today's miles were on the highway. I stopped in O'Neil for an early lunch and ended up spending 3 hours because I couldn't get motivated to continue the ride. I eventually made it to my overnight in Stuart.

Some views of the Cowboy Trail before I decided to take the highway:
Some towns I rode by and O'Neill where I stopped for a long lunch:
Well, if I'm not riding the Cowboy Trail, at least I'm on a historic highway.

This is cross country rider Robert, who is following the proposed Great American Rail Trail, as am I. Except he is going west to east. He started in the far Northwest and when he got into Idaho and Montana hit the extreme heat wave they had earlier this summer. After riding into Missoula, MT in 115° heat, he decided to get out of there and took a bus to South Dakota where he resumed his ride.

  1. You're making such amazing progress! It's especially moving to see needs met by the kindness of strangers along the ride. Ah, the part about missing Laura got me teary. Happy Birthday Laura! Continued thoughts and prayers for you both. Hugs, Marsha & fam

  2. No shame in opting out for smooth roads, as that is my cycling love language!😁
Days like this will test you, but they will make you physically and mentally strong 💪 if you don’t give up! You’ve got this Rolff, keep riding strong!
