Day 15 Plop Plop June 6th
Walnut Creek, OH to Mount Vernon, OH 57 miles (690)
I left my Amish hosts early this morning. As I was riding the beautiful back roads I saw about a dozen Amish families on their way to church in horse and buggies. I often heard the "clop, clop" before seeing the horse and buggy appear over the hill or around the bend.
Where there is a lot of clop clop, there is bound to be plenty of plop plop:
The plop plop was so ubiquitous that it could be considered a hazard for bicyclists, unless riding on a trail that has a dedicated lane for horse and buggies:

These stalls, located in the Walmart parking lot, are for the Amish to park their horse and buggies while shopping (the stalls were empty because it was a Sunday morning and the Amish were busy going to church). :
Don't think the speed limit applies to horse and buggy, even though they do trot at a good steady pace. I was passed by a couple of horse and buggies while struggling to go uphill - I did pass one horse and buggy on the downhill.

Today's ride was perfection! James, (See yesterday's post) helped plan today's route. 57 miles with about 40 miles of trails. :

Our family laughed out loud with the plop plop! Loved hearing about Ohio Marsha and the rhubarb pie :) - Marsha & Fam
ReplyDeleteGlad you're enjoying it!
DeleteSo wonderful to have great hosts along your route! Admiring the great photos of so many covered bridges-I cannot believe that you are already in Ohio…just keep pedaling-stay strong!
ReplyDeleteThere's something special about covered bridges - I can't quite put my finger on it, but I sure do enjoy them.
