The Map

My name is Rolff. I like to ride my bicycle. So much so that I am riding across the USA this summer, May 22nd - August ?. My route will approximately follow the proposed Great American Rail Trail. Click   HERE for a very cool interactive map. Here is a picture of my route:

I hope, with the help of my amazing, loving, and supportive wife, Laura, to make regular entries in this blog.

    What happened to Rolf? I was following him for a bit and he dropped off the face of the earth! What happened? Did he finish his ride without posting another Blog or did he give up only a state away from the finish line? Anyone know?

      The unvaccinated moron caught Covid and had to give up his dream of bicycling across the US and instead had to go to the hospital! He was only a state away from finishing. Lesson Learned!

    I heard he got hit by a semi truck while riding, survived but caught Covid in the hospital while recovering.

Day 18 Blue Samaritan June 9th

Xenia OH to Brookville OH via Tipp City 55 miles (874) Today this gentleman saved my bacon. More on that later.  Around 6:30 this morning, I sent a clarifying email to a Warm Showers member in Dayton, OH asking for advice on the best bridge to use to cross over the Great Miami River. My RidewGPS app said to use the 5th street bridge, but googlemaps bicycle mode said to use the Monument Ave bridge.  When I was ready to begin my ride at 8 am, I had not receives a reply, so I did what I usually do and put my phone in airplane mode. As I was approaching Dayton I thought to myself I would simply ask another local rider if or when I came upon one. After about 15 miles I was stopped at a park and saw a cyclist come from the other direction who stopped and was looking at a map. Day 06 - Paw Paw

  Hancock, MD to Cumberland, MD - 60 miles (305) Today I rode alone. Laura was shuttled to Cumberland and her ride happened to be the owner of the the Desert Rose where we had lunch yesterday. Laura took my bags with her so my bike felt extra light - rain was in the forecast late morning so I awakened shortly after 4 am and was on the trail by 5 am. Even though it was still dark I felt safe with my new headlight and the first 14 miles were paved. Today's highlight was the Paw Paw tunnel.  Bridge into Cumberland. The end of the C&O. Tomorrow we begin the Great Allegany Passage and a climb to the top of the Eastern Continental Divide. Shortly after my arrival in Cumberland it began pouring. Laura and I put on our fanciest duds and walked to dinner.
