Day 08 - Falling Waters


 Meyersdale, PA to Ohiopyle, PA - 41 mile (379)

Today we rode in 40 degree temperatures along the beautiful Great Allegheny Passage Trail. We ended in Ohiopyle, PA and grabbed a shuttle to Falling Waters - architect Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece that he designed for the weather Kaufman family of Pittsburgh.

The GAP trail so far follows the Youghiogheny River - we ate here which is a popular pub for local river guides. 








More pics of the trail - the bridges,  tunnels, trail surface and beauty of the GAP Trail continued to amaze.

    Great section of the trail. We love going to the pub and they have Guinness on tap.

      Something tells me the quality and quantity of photographs will suffer once Laura leaves :-(.. yes the lush greenery around here is eye popping.

Xenia OH to Brookville OH via Tipp City 55 miles (874) Today this gentleman saved my bacon. More on that later.  Around 6:30 this morning, I sent a clarifying email to a Warm Showers member in Dayton, OH asking for advice on the best bridge to use to cross over the Great Miami River. My RidewGPS app said to use the 5th street bridge, but googlemaps bicycle mode said to use the Monument Ave bridge.  When I was ready to begin my ride at 8 am, I had not receives a reply, so I did what I usually do and put my phone in airplane mode. As I was approaching Dayton I thought to myself I would simply ask another local rider if or when I came upon one. After about 15 miles I was stopped at a park and saw a cyclist come from the other direction who stopped and was looking at a map. Day 06 - Paw Paw

  Hancock, MD to Cumberland, MD - 60 miles (305) Today I rode alone. Laura was shuttled to Cumberland and her ride happened to be the owner of the the Desert Rose where we had lunch yesterday. Laura took my bags with her so my bike felt extra light - rain was in the forecast late morning so I awakened shortly after 4 am and was on the trail by 5 am. Even though it was still dark I felt safe with my new headlight and the first 14 miles were paved. Today's highlight was the Paw Paw tunnel.  Bridge into Cumberland. The end of the C&O. Tomorrow we begin the Great Allegany Passage and a climb to the top of the Eastern Continental Divide. Shortly after my arrival in Cumberland it began pouring. Laura and I put on our fanciest duds and walked to dinner.

Day 63 July 24th The Tapestry.

Cody WY to Creekside Lodge WY 42 miles (2,756) It is impossible to put into words the amazing tapestry that God wove in my life today. Nevertheless, I hope this feeble post communicates to some degree the myriad hues that colored my life between sunrise and sunset. One of three major persons that made today's experience memorable, Chris, the owner of Joywagen Bicycle Shop in Cody: Today began innocently enough with a climb out of Cody toward Buffalo Bill Dam and Reservoir: Then, I got a flat tire - only my second flat in over 2,700 miles.
